Chapter Twenty Two

Slim arms wrapped around Shore from behind. He grabbed the wrists and extracted himself.

Chantel popped up in front of him with a contagious smile. He grinned back, remembering the good times he'd shared with the woman who'd hung around the Brikken clubhouse on party nights for the last five years.

"Where have you been, stranger?" Chantel raised her arms and swayed to the music. "I haven't seen you in forever."

"Around." He lifted his beer bottle to his lips.

"Wanna go upstairs?" She danced her way closer, rubbing her body against the front of him.

Normally, he would've led her to one of the vacant rooms and taken her up on the offer. But he only had a couple of hours until Frankie woke up and got ready for work. He had a slim window to see her, and he wouldn't want to miss it.

"Shore," shouted Thorn from across the clubhouse. "Hang on a minute."

"I'll be outside." He pointed above his head.

Chantel cocked her hip and motioned him closer with her index finger. He shrugged, not giving her any excuse. There was something more important he wanted to do at the moment than have sex for the sake of sex.

Frankie spoiled him. He was good to go.

Walking outside, he lit a cigarette and let the coolness of the middle of the night wash over him. Brikken had another successful shipment leave Tacoma earlier. The crew up in Seattle was pulling up a quarter of the stolen bike parts—not enough.

Jett, at the meeting late yesterday, had said as much. He'd be expected to ride out next week. As someone with experience stealing bikes, he could show some of the younger members how to go about it.

Half the problem was Seattle was a foreign land to them. While Tacoma was close, they had to deal with more traffic, homes, eyewitnesses, and chances of getting caught and arrested. Even the court system was different in Seattle than it was in Tacoma.

Though the biggest danger came in the form of federal agents. Nobody could save them from the Feds.

The added danger in his life made him more determined to spend time with Frankie. He never knew when his freedom would be taken away.

He blew smoke into the air and stood beside his motorcycle while waiting for Thorn, the youngest of the Stanton brothers. Thorn was responsible for organizing the crews that went up to Seattle on the next ride.

Several Brikken members walked from the field to the clubhouse. In the shadows, he kept to himself. He had no plans to stay any longer. As soon as Thorn finished talking to him, he was going to hit the road. It'd been a long night. As soon as he caught up with Frankie, he was going to get some sleep.

A woman's laughter filled the early hours. He flicked the coal off his cigarette and pocketed the butt. If he stood around too much longer, exhaustion was going to hit him.

The front door swung open. The music of Sammy Hagar spilled out.
